Struthers Primary is a Gold Level 2 Rights Respecting and Fair Achiever School.
The purpose of our committee is to raise awareness of the rights of the child. This is an essential component of our school's improvement plan. It puts the United Nation's Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as one of the main cores of our school's planning, practice, policies and ethos.
The ABCDE of United Nations Convention of the Rights of a Child
UNIVERSAL - Rights are for ALL children
INHERENT – Rights are there from BIRTH for all children.
INALIENABLE – Rights CANNOT be taken or given away.
UNCONDITIONAL- Rights are for all children and DO not have to be earned.
INDIVISIBLE – All rights are EQUALLY important - NO right is more important than another
All children, everywhere have all the rights.
All adults have a duty to look after all children
Our pupil committee meet regularly.
This year we are focussing on Childrens’ rights across the globe.
We are continuing to support children in Diesploot, Africa and are still collecting our loose change in our JAM tins.
We also continue to support our friends in the Ugandan Orphanage.
We are continuing to support our school chaplains project building a school in Haiti.
We support our local foodbank and local charities regularly.
Our school charter, lunchtime and playground charters are updated every year.
Each class and committee also design their own charter each year.
We try to link our topics and school displays to the articles of the UNCRC and the 17 sustainable goals..
Representatives from our RRS Pupil committee also inform our pupils of the Articles which relate to our weekly school assembly.
We are continuing to ensure everyone in our school is valued and respected by all,
linking with the UNCRC, GIRFEC, SHANARRI and our school values.
The RRSA Committee is led by Mrs Boyd and Mr Haniford
Why don't you try some of the challenges?

Some things to think about.. During lockdown UNICEF have thinking about a different article every week Article 24 The right to good health care, clean water and nutritious food. Article 12 the right to have your views respected Article 7 The right to birth registration, a name and nationality and care Article 14 Freedom of thought, Belief and Religion Article 28 The right to an education Article 15 The right to freedom of association Article 19 The right to protection |
|

We all have been thinking about the ABCDE of rights. They belong to every child, wherever they are and cannot be taken away. We are relating the articles to our topic work and have been considering how all the articles can be applied to our topics and what the articles mean to us in our daily lives.

Can you Help?
We are collecting new and old used stamps for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Primary bone cancer can occur at any age, but affects mostly children, teenagers, young adults and the elderly. On average 12 people every week are diagnosed across the UK and Ireland. The survival rate for this disease is just over 50% and this has not changed in the last 25 years. With your help we can work towards changing this, so more people have a chance to live!
